Fever is one of the most common symptoms people experience. And for many, especially in African settings, the first thought is simple:
“It’s probably malaria.”
So treatment begins.
But sometimes, it does not work.
Because fever is not a diagnosis. It is a signal.
A fever is the body’s response to infection or inflammation.
Normal temperature ranges between 36.5 and 37.5°C.
Fever is usually above 38°C.
What matters most is the cause.
Not every fever is malaria.
From clinical experience, many patients:
This delays proper treatment.
By the time care is sought, the illness may be worse.
Seek care if you have:
These may indicate serious illness, including sepsis.
Sepsis often starts as a simple infection.
It may look mild at first.
But it can progress quickly if untreated.
Patients often present after self-treating for malaria, only to be diagnosed with another condition.
Delays increase complications.
👉 Treating symptoms without knowing the cause can be risky.
Fever is common, but not always simple.
It is your body sending a message.
